Malaysia: Melaka Governor’s Birthday

The Malacca Sultanate was a Malay sultanate and is commonly considered to be the first independent state in the Malay peninsula. However, the last sultan was overthrown when the Portuguese invaded Malacca in 1511. Today, the head of state for Malacca is the Governor or the Yang diPertua Negeri. The birthday of the Governor of Malacca is observed on the second Friday in the month of October every year. The current Governor of Malacca is Tun Datuk Seri Utama Dr. Mohd Khalil bin Yaacob. He was appointed governor on June 4, 2004.
