International Students' Day

The International Students Day is an annual observance on the student community on November 17. It is an international observance of student activism. Originally, the day was to commemorate the storming of University of Prague in 1939 by the Nazi and the subsequent closing of all Czech universities, killing and sending of students to concentration camps. Efforts were made in 1941 to convince students of other nationalities to acknowledge November 17 as a day of commemoration, celebrating and encouraging resistance against the Nazis and the fight for freedom and democracy in all nations. Today, this day is observed by a number of universities, sometimes on a day other than November 17, as a non-political celebration of the multiculturalism of their international students.
