International Kissing Day

The International Kissing Day is observed on July 6 every year. The exact origins of this annual observance are unknown, but it is believed to have started in the United Kingdom. International Kissing Day has become popular around the world. Kissing is one of the most recognised gestures in the world. There is culture-specific meaning and importance. In many cultures, kissing can be a sign of respect, greeting and friendship. There are two theories on why humans kiss. According to the first theory, kissing is a behaviour that evolved from kiss feeding - mothers feeding their children chewed-up food through their mouths. The second theory suggests that kissing is an instinct that humans have had throughout the history of humankind. Kissing involves 34 out of 42 facial muscles in humans.
